Shapiro Law Team February 27, 2019 Firm News

Car accidents happen every day. You may have seen your fair share at many points in your life or had a few close calls. Unfortunately, the odds are that if you have not been in a car accident in your life as of yet, you likely will at some point.

The idea of being in a car accident is certainly frightening, and you undoubtedly want to do your part to remain as safe as possible while on the road. As a result, you likely participate in many safe driving habits, like staying focused and avoiding dangerous activities while behind the wheel, like texting. In a perfect world, everyone would drive safely, but the world is far from perfect.

Common crash causes

Though various factors could contribute to car accidents, some causes are more prevalent than others. Some of the following examples you may recognize and others may surprise you:

  • Drunk driving: This cause likely comes as no surprise as it is the number one cause of car crashes in the United States.
  • Rain: Rain and other weather conditions can easily make roads more dangerous, and many drivers fail to take precautions while driving in inclement weather.
  • Distracted driving: Unfortunately, this cause is becoming more of an issue as drivers participate in numerous activities behind the wheel that make them lose focus, such as making calls, texting or eating.
  • Reckless driving: Driving aggressively, speeding well over the posted limit and having a general reckless disregard for one’s own safety and the safety of others can cause serious accidents.
  • Speeding: While substantial speeding may constitute reckless driving, speeding in general is the second most common cause of car accidents.
  • Design defects: In some cases, a car accident could occur because a defect with a vehicle causes a driver to lose control or causes other outcomes that lead to crashes.
  • Animals: Animals of all types can suddenly find their ways onto roads and in the path of vehicles. When drivers try to avoid animals, or even when they hit animals, serious accidents can take place.

Numerous other common causes of car crashes exist, and one day, you could become the victim of one.

Seeking compensation

In the event that another driver causes an accident that leads to you suffering serious injuries, you may have reason to file a legal claim against that driver. A personal injury claim could allow you to seek compensation for medical bills, pain and suffering, and other damages permitted under Arizona state law.
